Assessment and reporting

Our teachers use a variety of strategies to assess student learning.

Teachers observe students' work in class and look closely at tasks throughout the year. They also formally assess a student's achievement based on the outcomes described in the syllabus of the subject.

As a parent or carer, you’ll receive a written report twice a year. It gives you a clear picture of your child’s achievements – what they know and can do.

In Years 7 to 10, we use the common grade scale in reporting. In Year 11, we use the Preliminary grade scale.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses are assessed on achievement of competencies.

Assessments

We provide detailed information to students about what we expect from them throughout the year and how their work will be assessed. Students have a number of formal assessments throughout their schooling.

Year 9 & 10 mark the first of the years in which students can earn a leaving credential. This is the Record of School Achievement and will be on “the public record” for all time.

The Assessment booklets outline the school’s expectations and provide important information about the various ways in which assessment takes place. Each subject has a published schedule of assessment tasks which must be completed throughout the year in order for a grade to be awarded to a student. The assessment tasks are based on the students working towards achieving the learning outcomes published in the NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority) syllabi.

At the end of Year 10, students will be awarded a Record of School Achievement, (ROSA) Which:

 • indicates that you have attended regularly and satisfactorily studied the necessary subjects throughout Years 9 and 10,

• lists all the subjects and courses studied and the level of achievement in each of these as an A, B, C, D, E, or N grading.

In Year 11 and 12  assessment tasks are set in each Preliminary and HSC course that will assess your achievement of course outcomes. For Preliminary courses this assessment will be used to determine if you have satisfactorily completed the course. For HSC courses the assessment will be used for both the determination of satisfactory study and the compilation of a mark that will appear on your HSC.

Booklets are given to students at the start of the year, can be located at the Front Office or follow the links below to download. Please take the time to read the information in this booklet carefully, keep it in a safe place and think carefully about the expectations in Year 9, 10, 11 and 12.
