Student Support

Introducing Teena our STUDENT SUPPORT OFFICER – SSO.

Within the role of SSO their main priority is the students. To promote their healthy wellbeing, they undertake the position of advocate, listener, and mentor. Their role is to support students and their families through their time at High School.

Students can self-refer or be referred by their caregivers. Students can also be referred by the school Principal and/or Deputy Principal.

The SSO does not replace the role of school counsellor. The school counsellor will still work with students who are in crisis, in need of assessment or ongoing counselling. The SSO can refer to the school counsellor to best meet the wellbeing needs of the students. The SSO will be able to provide follow up support as required.

The SSO works with individual students, and small groups to support their wellbeing. SSO works in conjunction with Year Advisors, Girls Advisor, Learning and Support Team and other significant staff to support the wellbeing of students.

Families can make self-referrals for assistance in referrals to community services agencies by ringing the main office and asking for the Student Support Officer Teena.

An example of some of the services the SSO offers :

·       One-on-one and small group sessions to support student wellbeing,

·       Facilitating and accessing support - such as external mental health and/or community support,

·       Small group programs to support identified student needs,

·       Calm space for a chat and chill out, open most lunches,

·       Lunchtime social groups, student lead activities dependant on student needs,

·       Referrals to external programs and providers,

·       A caring ear to listen to your worries, both at school and outside of school, not a counsellor.

Unsure what supports may be available or want more information? Come have a chat and we can discover these together.
